Dog Crates

There are many people that feel using dog crates is a good tool for training their animals while there are others who feel it is cruel.

The truth is, this is one of the best ways in training your dog by using their natural instincts. This allows your dog to have his own personal space that he can feel safe in. It is the dog's natural instincts to have a den which he considers to be his bed. Crates are not only used to give your pet a home, crates can be used for house training as well.
Dogs will naturally resist the urge to go to the bathroom where they sleep. Using a crate teaches your dog to control himself until you can get home to let him out. You need to be sure to take your dog out of the crate and outside soon as you get home so he has the chance to do his business. It is also good to take your pet outside right after and nap times.
Another great use for dog crates is transporting. Many people don't like to leave their dogs at home if they have to travel overnight somewhere so they can opt to use a crate to take their pet with them. It is also good to use a dog crate to take your dog to the veterinarian. This way you can take your pet with you when traveling somewhere and not have to worry about finding someone to care for your pet while you're gone.
Most people do not realize that it is actually a comforting thing for a dog to have his own space where he feels protected and a place where he can rest. This allows your dog to have a special place to go when he wants to be left alone. A crate will also provide you peace of mind where your home is concerned as new puppies tend to like to chew on things and the last thing you want is to have your precious new addition get hurt from chewing on cords or furniture. Dogs are curious creatures by nature and can get into things they shouldn’t or worse yet chemicals that can harm them.
You will want to size the crate to your dog. You want your dog to have enough room to turn around and you want to be sure that your dog cannot catch himself on something and choke. You do not want to put too many chew toys in the crate so your dog won't choke but be sure to give him a water bottle so he does not get dehydrated. Be sure to never use dog crates as a means of punishment for your pet as you want this to be a safe place your dog loves.
